On the Road....

To say we are excited is an understatement! We have Ken's car packed for our long long drive to Florida - having breakfast with my Daddy-o and Irma in Ocala, then off to see Ken's parents and family in Palm Beach Gardens. And then flying out of Miami to Guayaquil....

Ken's son is expecting their first - a girl, and the baby is due tomorrow! So hopefully we will have a nice surprise when we get back to the US - they also live in PBG, how convenient!

Hasta Luego!

Gathering Stuff

Do you know someone who packs for a vacation a month ahead? Something about that doesn't seem right. However I do start the process of throwing garments or items I may need for my trip sometime in the week prior to my departure date, especially if going on a trip longer than, say, 7 days.  If I am lucky, most of the items will land on top of the suitcase.

This morning I started that process. It's sinking in that in just under a week, I will be on the coast of Ecuador. Goodness there's stuff to do!! Shorts, and tops, and sandals, and a light jacket (hey, it's winter there, haha) oh, and a large roll of $1 bills, a stack of five$ all made it on top of the suitcase. Fine, MOST of it made it on top of the suitcase.

Wait a sec....a large roll of $1 bills? Why would I take a large wad of singles instead of one crisp $100 bill? Well, most things cost way less than what we are used to here in the US. The place of business probably won't have change - have you ever been to Mexico? Costa Rica? Ok, "change" doesn't exist. We also have a couple rolls of quarters. I hear quarters are always needed and appreciated. Bus fare is a quarter. Even though we are renting a car - hey, we're thrill seekers even at our old age, and we survived driving across Costa Rica, coast to coast, and in San Jose on a Friday night (that was a close call, but let's not dwell). Even so, I want to experience riding a 'chicken bus.' Call me crazy, whatever. I'll post pics. We can ALL have a laugh then.

So this weekend is packing party time, wine included ;)

Let's Get This Party Started....

If you are reading this, you are probably one of my friends who are thinking that yes, this girl is a nutcase. She is actually going to Ecuador? Why in the world would ANYONE, much less the Tamster, want to move to a third world country? Well, those same friends loved my pics of Costa Rica and said they couldn't wait to vacation there. Same with the Caymans, Jamaica, Barbados (where I married my gorgeous hubs!) and on and on....but to actually pack up and move? THAT'S nuts. I agree, but hey, you only live once, and I plan on enjoying my life to the fullest - preferably with a beautiful view of the Pacific Ocean, and the sound of those waves lulling me to sleep and waking me up in the morning.

Uh, I may wake up to the sound of roosters, according to some expats - or could be a parade, there are many of those in Ecuador - we'll see soon enough...

Bringing my 17 year old son on this scouting trip. He asked me today if there would be internet. I told him yes. Haha. Maybe. Don't want to scare him too much. This will be his first time out of the country. And to a developing country at that. Oh fun! Hopefully he will be too busy taking surfing lessons, and checking out the 'scene' to even care about his electronics.

Stay tuned for pics and musings from the coast of Ecuador.
